I live in a great country. I have a job, a home, family, and friends. Entertainment options abound—concerts, sports, movies, and more. So why, with so much, do I still feel empty?
I live in a time where technology is advancing rapidly and communication is easier than ever, yet I still feel alone. Why does it feel like something is missing?
Does this sound familiar?
If you’ve struggled with these or similar thoughts, you are not alone. We have more ways than ever before to connect with others, yet people feel increasingly lonely and empty. We try many things to fill that emptiness, but nothing truly satisfies. There is always something new to achieve, more money to make, or another distraction—but none of it fills the longing inside.
Is This Feeling Trying to Tell You Something?
What if this feeling isn’t random? What if it’s pointing to something deeper?
Could it be that what we are longing for is something—or Someone—who truly knows us and accepts us? Are we longing for a deeper connection or a true sense of purpose?
We were created for connection. In Genesis 1:26, God made man in His image. Of all that God created, He made us to be like Him—created for relationship with Him.
When Adam was alone in the Garden of Eden, God said it was not good for man to be alone, so He created Eve to share life with him (Genesis 2:18). God walked in the Garden with Adam and Eve and had fellowship with them.
But when they disobeyed God, that fellowship was broken. Since that time, humanity has been trying to fill that emptiness.
Why Nothing Truly Satisfies
If money, social life, success, and entertainment aren’t enough, what are we missing?
The Bible teaches that this emptiness is connected to our relationship with the God who created us, loves us, and sent His Son to die for us.
We cannot buy fellowship with God. We cannot earn it through good behaviour. But we can receive it by faith.
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
God sent His Son, Jesus, to restore that broken relationship. God wants to have a relationship with you.
What Keeps Us from God?
The Bible teaches that because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, we are all born sinners. Sin is anything we do, say, or think that does not perfectly align with God. No one has lived perfectly except Jesus.
Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
But God didn’t want us to remain separated from Him. He made a way to bring us back.
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Because of sin, we deserve separation from God. But through Jesus, we are offered the gift of eternal life. Salvation restores our relationship with God—and this is where you can begin to see that deep emptiness start to fade.
A Gift You Don’t Have to Earn
We may think we need to do something to earn God’s forgiveness. We may think we need to change before God will accept us—but that’s not true.
Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
That means anyone can come to Him.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus didn’t wait for us to fix ourselves. He came because we couldn’t fix what was missing on our own. He invites us to come just as we are.
You are why Jesus came to earth. You are the reason He died. You are the reason He rose again. He wants a relationship with you.
An Invitation, Not Something to Ignore
What if the emptiness you’re feeling isn’t something to ignore—but something to listen to?
What if it’s a quiet invitation from God Himself?
He has placed a longing in your heart that only He can fill. He wants you to know Him, trust Him, and walk with Him. You don’t have to have everything figured out. You can start right where you are.
That emptiness you feel may be pointing you toward something more—and ultimately, toward Him.
What You Can Do Next
If you have questions about how to know Jesus as your Saviour, here are a few simple steps:
- Watch “Here’s What Is Missing” — a short video explaining the hope Jesus offers
- Hear from people who have found that hope for themselves
- Talk to God honestly in prayer
- Ask Him to help you understand and to forgive your sins
- Read the Bible—the book of John is a great place to start
- Connect with a local church where you can learn more
What if the emptiness you feel is actually a call to something greater than you ever imagined?
God is reaching out to you—even in the middle of that emptiness. He wants you to know Him.
You Are Not Alone
Once you accept His gift of salvation, you are not alone. God walks with you through life.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee.”
He will give you strength when you are weak and comfort when you are afraid. He wants to fill that emptiness with His love.
Not only can you have a relationship with God here and now, but you can also look forward to eternal fellowship with Him in Heaven.
Whether you have decided to trust Jesus as your Saviour or you still have questions, we would love to hear from you at the Canadian Gospel Project.
